The Project
Our Royal Elders seeks to change the perception of the elderly within our communities and to show appreciation for the beauty of having lived a long life. There is a lack of positive representation of the elderly in the media and by highlighting their beauty aspire to create a new culture of admiration and respect for our elders.
The experience of the residents of care communities can be especially difficult. They often deal with high rates of loneliness and depression, yet deserve to be honored and revered. By adorning them in royal costume and taking their portraits we are able to show the world how beautiful they are and show the elderly themselves that they are worthy of being seen, heard, and honored. By sharing their stories across platforms and curating a historical archive they can dispense their wisdom to people of all ages for many years to come.
About us
We're Brynne and Blake, a couple dedicated to documenting our reverent elderly populations residing within care communities. Brynne is a singer whose firsthand experience performing in these communities showed a severe lack in our elders being celebrated, instead, being relegated to a life of activities and schedules reminding them just how old they are. Inspired by The Goddess Project by Ruby Jean (@rubyjeanphotography), and with her permission, Brynne set out to capture our elders as the distinguished, wise, and beautiful people that they are. With a handful of volunteers and willing residents, Brynne completed her first photoshoot to rave reviews by the staff and residents of the Arbors.
Wanting to continue growth and provide the highest quality she could, she partnered with Blake, a professional photographer with over seven years of experience, to help bring the project fully to fruition. Now, with a couple of photoshoots under their belts, they can safely say that these forgotten elders love to feel seen, and love feeling like royalty.
